Statement of Work

CGC Stratton

Shaft Alignment and Bearing Reaction Check

 Intent: contractor must measure and report to USCG the Vertical and Horizontal Loads on the (2) bull gear bearings and (2) intermediate bearings, stern and strut bearings, using the Strain Gage Method.

Period of Performance: 01 November 2026 – 01 January 2027

Location: USCGC Stratton, 42 Eagle Road Coast Guard Island, Alameda CA 94501

Contractor will install a total of (5) full bridge strain gage sets on the Port shaft, and (5) strain gage sets on the Starboard shaft, to complete the bearing load calculations.

Contractor will also measure and report the vertical load on each line shaft bearing using the Hydraulic Jack/Load Cell method.

Contractor will provide all specialty tools and calibrated instrumentation necessary to install the strain gages and measure the strain gage data.

Contractor shall provide a final written report within 15 days after completion of the work covered by this scope of work.  The report shall contain at a minimum the following:

  • Introduction and References
  • Project description
  • Alignment calculations
  • Alignment tests with strain gages
  • Conclusions
  • Recommendation for future action
  • Data sheets on shaft model used to obtain reported results e.g. stations, strain gauge locations, diameters, lengths, load points, etc.
  • Data sheets from Computer runs that computed reported results e.g. stations, deflections, stresses, bearing reactions, slopes, etc.
