Is Abierto free?

Yes, to read. Every opportunity, award, agency, vendor and place page is free, and so are search, the JSON API and the Markdown version of each page. You don't need an account. The paid workspace does the watching for you: it matches open solicitations to your business with AI and emails you the ones that fit, from $39 a month.

Where does the data come from?

From the government's own public files: the SAM.gov Contract Opportunities bulk extract for notices, USAspending.gov's contract data for awards, and Census Bureau reference files for places. Abierto rebuilds from them every night and matches each award to its solicitation by contract and solicitation number, never by name. Every record links back to its source.

Does Abierto replace SAM.gov?

No. SAM.gov is the official record, where you register your entity and where most solicitations are answered. Abierto makes what SAM.gov and USAspending publish faster to read: one page per solicitation with every amendment on it, the award beside it, and the agency's and incumbent's history a click away. Confirm a deadline on SAM.gov before you submit.

How do I find federal contracts for my small business?

Start from the work you do. Open your NAICS code under Industries to see what's open in it and who won it before. Check the set-aside pages for programs you qualify for, such as 8(a), HUBZone, SDVOSB or WOSB, and your state, county or city under Locations for work nearby. When a solicitation looks right, open the contracting office's page to see what that office buys and who it buys from.

Can I see who won a federal contract?

Yes, for any award reported to USAspending. Each opportunity page shows the award matched to it: the vendor, the date, the amount obligated and how it was competed. Defense awards reach USAspending about 90 days after the fact, so the newest Department of Defense awards show up late.

Can I see who else is bidding on a solicitation?

No. Offerors aren't public before award, on SAM.gov or anywhere else. After award the record gives the number of offers received, and Abierto shows it. Anyone who claims to know who's bidding on an open federal solicitation is guessing.

Does Abierto cover state and local government bids?

Not yet. Abierto covers federal contracting: every SAM.gov notice and every USAspending contract award. Federal work performed in a state, county or city is listed on that place's page. If state and local bids matter to you, write to us: the answers decide which states we add first.

How do I get alerts for federal contracts that fit my business?
