Description

As published on SAM.gov.

The purpose of amendment 0001 on 9/3 is to add the PDF copy of the SOW that includes the photos.

The purpose of amendment 0002 is to extend the close date to 9/15.

The Submarine Force Museum (SFM) intends to procure two (2) conservation-grade (i.e. made from archival materials that are inert and will not off-gas or cause damage to the artifacts) microclimate museum display cases for use in future exhibits. This is part of a broader strategy to update all cases in the museum to have a uniform appearance and to meet museum preservation standards. These cases will help SFM meet current preservation standards while displaying artifacts from its historic collections, as the current cases which can accommodate mannequins do not meet museum preservation standards and are causing degradation to the artifacts on display. These cases will increase flexibility and mobility when creating new exhibits, as they are moveable, unlike the current cases. Conservation-grade cases will also allow SFM to borrow artifacts from other institutions which require more stringent display preservation standards than the current cases allow.

These new cases will replace a double mannequin case that was previously loaned to SFM but is now being recalled. These cases will allow SFM to continue displaying the two mannequins assigned to this exhibit, thus preventing disruption of display and the visitor experience. These new cases should align with the design, engineering, and appearance of the ones already installed in the exhibit (see reference photos below; these cases were the first to be designed and engineered as part of the case updating strategy and therefore, they form the benchmark by which all other cases will be created), with any desired differences and exceptions noted here.
