$29,025.00 obligated so far on USAspending
Description
As published on SAM.gov.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Acquisition & Grants Office (AGO), Western Acquisition Division-Boulder (WAD), Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Earth Systems Research Laboratories (ESRL), Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with LNI Swissgas US LLC located in West Hartford, CT for the purchase of one (1) Sonimix 4001 ozone generator to be delivered to Boulder, CO.
The sole source determination is based on NOAA’s requirement that LNI Swissgas US is the only vendor that manufactures and distributes the Sonimix 4001 ozone generator. The CSL has multiple ozone measuring research instruments and conducts projects that require measurement of ozone from the surface to the stratosphere. Ozone is an important trace gas species in Earth’s atmosphere.
The ozone layer in the stratosphere is critical for protecting Earth’s surface from harmful UV radiation, while at the surface ozone is a criteria air pollutant which negatively impacts both human health and the environment (e.g. crop production). Due to the strong gradient in ozone mixing ratios between the upper troposphere (UT) and lower stratosphere (LS), ozone is also a critical measurement for characterizing the atmospheric state in UTLS studies.
A primary standard (PS) ozone generator is necessary to regularly calibrate these instruments to ensure research data quality. The LNI Swissgas Sonimix 4001 is a stand-alone ozone primary transfer standard able to generate ozone together with dry or wet air allowing it to calibrate the ozone monitors in several points.
This instrument was the only ozone calibrator identified capable of producing standard-traceable ozone mixing ratios up to 8 ppm in a flow of 3 liters per minute, which is required to ensure calibration across the full range of measurements made by our stratospheric research ozone instruments. Delivery within 60 days from date of award.
