The Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) is for mounted and dismounted Soldiers Outer Tactical Vests (OTV) during a full spectrum of combat operations. When placed in the Outer Tactical Vest (OTV), the insert provides the Soldier with ballistic protection from specific 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm rifle rounds.
