PSL Cell 9 Upgrade

C.1 Project Title: PSL, Cell 9, Shielded Wiring for Electrified Powertrain Testing C.2 Objectives: Electrified power train components and electrified propulsion continue to be developed and tested by the US Army, Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC), Ground Vehicle Power and Mobility (GVPM), Propulsion Systems Laboratory (PSL) facility.

The electrified propulsion technologies under development emit an Electromagnet Interference (EMI) that can be disruptive to the accuracy and control of the existing Data Acquisition (DAQ) equipment. The existing DAQ equipment typically uses wiring and cables compatible with the low EMI interference generated from the testing of conventional mechanical propulsion systems.

New multi-strand wires and cables which are shielded and grounded, specialized probes, and EMI protective jackets are required to accurately test and collect data while testing electrified propulsion technologies. Currently, GVPM cell 9 is the only test cell capable of performing the critical full load cooling test on an Abrams class vehicle. Cell 9 requires the stated new EMI protected laboratory equipment if full load cooling testing is to be performed on an electrified Abrams.

It is envisioned that the new EMI protected laboratory equipment may also be used in GVPM test cells 2, 4, 5, and the Electrical Components Laboratory (ECL) which are also transitioning towards the development and testing of highly electrified propulsion components, powerpacks, and full vehicles.
