Description
As published on SAM.gov.
W90VN6-24-P-0017, valued at $55,990, has been awarded by sole source base to Flightcom to procure the company's unique wireless headset systems. The Government has looked for a wireless headset system to improve mission capability of U.S. Airforce aircrew and maintenance ground crew who are working close to the aircrafts and the flightlines.
The requirements were: 1.) Must be Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) certified under the USAF Safety Center Share point under Modern Mobile Emitters (MMEs) Documents and be able to be used while transmitting within 1 foot of any munition. 2.) Streamlined wireless communication (Bluetooth or similar) between all ground crew members that will not interfere with or cause excessive talking on pilot radios.
3.) Have at least one headset designated and capable of communicating with the aircrew directly either through a communications hub connected to the aircraft internal communication system or through radio transmissions that can be tuned-in to by the aircrew with their aircraft radio. 4.) Provide hearing protection for at least 24dB alone to augment in-ear plugs used when personnel are around running aircraft engines and bomb-lift vehicles.
5.) Headsets and associated equipment required for use must be durable and capable of being exposed to extreme climates and weather (i.e. Snow, Heavy Rain, High Humidity, Heat exceeding 110F, Cold below 10F, etc) for a minimum of 4 hours on a repeated and daily basis. 6.) Battery life for headsets and associated equipment should be at least 12 hours and can be recharged to full capacity in less than 8 hours; charging stations should also use standard U.S. 110-120VDC plugs.
7.) The headsets must have a hands-free and/or push-to-talk capability when transmitting. 8.) Headsets must accommodate for five (5) maintenance ground crew per kit/set. Additionally, the headset shall have noise cancelling capability and it should come as a kit. The color of the headset and the kit shall be red, black, or a combination. The Government's market research could not find any other headset meeting all the requirement above other than Flightcom's product. Flightcom is the manufacturer and the only authorized seller for their products.
