Notice Type:
Sources Sought Classification Code:
91 – Oils & Greases:
Cutting, Lube & Hydraulic NAICS Code: 324191 – Petroleum Lubricating Oil and Grease Manufacturing Synopsis SOURCES SOUGHT: THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS, QUOTATIONS OR BIDS. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE ONLY. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) is seeking additional sources for grease in accordance with MIL-G-81827A Grease, Aircraft, High Load Capacity, Wide Temperature Range.
MIL-G-81827 is viewable at https://quicksearch.dla.mil/ (enter 81827 in the “Document ID” search box). This specification covers the requirements for one grade of grease for use as a lubricant on heavily loaded sliding steel surfaces. The grease shall consist essentially of a suitable liquid lubricant, a gelling agent and molybdenum disulfide. The molybdenum disulfide shall be a powder in the 4 – 10 micron particle size range and of a purity and grade suitable for general lubricating use.
Use of improved fluids such as synthetic hydrocarbons may be required as base oil constituents to meet the requirements of this specification. The grease covered by this specification is intended for use as a lubricant for heavily loaded accessory splines, sliding surfaces, and anti-friction bearings operating through a wide temperature range -54 °C (-65 °F) to 177 °C (350 °F) where molybdenum disulfide will delay or prevent seizure in the event of inadequate lubrication.
This grease is compatible with elastomeric seals. This grease shall not be used for other than steel surfaces without prior performance evaluation. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. This notice is to seek additional manufacturing sources of MIL-G-81827A Grease. MIL-G-81827A is a defense specification that has qualification requirements.
Qualification is a process in advance of, and independent of, an acquisition by which a manufacturer’s capabilities and products are examined, tested, and verified to be in conformance with specification requirements, and subsequent approval for inclusion of products in an electronic Qualified Products List which are part of the Qualified Products Database. Manufacturers need to be aware of these requirements specified in MIL-G-81827A.
Perspective manufacturers must arrange to have the products that they propose to offer to the Federal Government tested for qualification in order that they may be eligible to be awarded any potential future contracts or orders for the products covered by MIL-G-81827A. Guidance for manufacturers and their authorized distributors who wish to submit products for NAWCAD qualification is available in Provisions Governing Qualification (SD-6).
The SD-6 is available in ASSIST, https://quicksearch.dla.mil/ (enter SD-6 in the “Document ID” search box). Additional information and questions pertaining to qualification of products to MIL-G-81827A may be obtained from frank.magnifico2.civ@us.navy.mil.
Submission Instructions: Interested parties are invited to submit a request for qualification application procedures in response to this Sources Sought Notice via email to the following addresses: THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION.
