Replace high-security greenhouse seals and shade cloth, Laurel, Maryland

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, has a high-security, BSL3 greenhouse in Laurel, Maryland, that needs parts of its glazing system replaced. The National Center for Applied Plant Protection in Laurel is a world reference laboratory for plant diagnostic testing and works with many complex diseases and pathogens that threaten agricultural and native plants. The greenhouse is an integral part of the containment of these plant pathogens and select agents.

The BSL3 greenhouse began operating in 2004. Due to the age of the facility, wear and tear of the glass seals has occurred due to constant exposure to the elements and UV light and need to be replaced. The glass panes supported by these seals have suffered from years of use and are not as effective at allowing light to pass as they once were. Additionally, the greenhouse’s cloth shade system needs replacing.

The NAICS code for this project is 238150—Glass and Glazing Contractors, with a small business size standard of $19 million. The estimated magnitude of the project is between $1 million and $5 million. The project will be set aside for HUBZone small business concerns only.
