Modify two 60/15 ton portal cranes at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) for support of pier side special purpose service (SPS) operations. The modification for both cranes will include the addition of a broken shaft detection system (BSDS) for the main and whip hoists and the replacement of the boom hoist wire rope. The BSDS consists of a caliper disc brake mounted on the wire rope drum, modifications as needed to the crane structure to accommodate the brake, and the associated caliper disc brake control system(s) for the main and whip hoists of both cranes.
