Notice of Intent to Sole Source - Smithland Delroyd Worm Gear Box

The Louisville District intends to enter into a sole-source procurement in accordance with FAR 13.106-(b)(1). To procure the (1) Delroyd Worm Gear Box (E-80). Smithland L&D currently has (11) existing worm gear boxes across the dam infrastructure that are critical to the lifting and lowering of the Tainter Gates to control river elevations to allow for navigation on the lower Ohio River. This procurement allows Smithland L&D personnel to replace a previously failed Delroyd worm gear box.

Each tainter gate requires (1) worm gear box. Delroyd was the awarded manufacturer of the worm gear box during the original construction of Smithland L&D (1975) and still possess the original as-built drawings to fabricate exact replacements. Delroyd does not sell their products and this action will be solicited competitively to industrial machinery distributors (NAICS 423840)
