Bearing Support Structure (BSS) Inseperable Assembly Finishing

The purpose of this notice is solely for the announcement of the Justification & Approval (J&A) for this requirement. This notice of intent is NOT a request for proposals or quotations. For this J&A, Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Divsion (NSWCCD) requests a modification to contract N0016723D0004 with BAE Systems Land & Armaments LP.

(BAE Systems) to increase the contract scope in order to manufacture and deliver U.S. Navy (USN) COLUMBIA Class Submarine components, the COLUMBIA Class Bearing Support Structure (BSS). This modification is considered outside the scope of the contract due to the additional tasks that were previously performed by the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC). NFPC is not able to meet the USN COLUMBIA Class Submarine schedule with the available machine and personnel resources, making an off-load necessary.

This off-load production work from NFPC to BAE Systems will reduce schedule risk for propulsor manufacturing; late delivery of each BSS may jeopardize on-time delivery of the USN COLUMBIA Class submarines.
