Request for Information - Adaptive Reuse of Federal Facilities

GSA’s Workplace 2030 initiative was formed to co-create a vision for the future of federal work. This Request for Information (RFI), seeks examples of alternative uses and new business models for commercial (federal) real estate in order to support the missions of federal agencies with less, better, and more efficiently utilized office space.

Of particular interest are how federally-owned commercial office facilities might bring greater benefit to local communities and low-cost options to serve as a bridge to new, long-term offerings. We seek responses from members of industry, the not-for-profit sector, academia and federal, state and local government that share practical experiences relevant to reimagining federal commercial office space. Potential uses being considered include but need not be limited to:

child care, public private partnerships, housing, economic development and revitalization, integration of federal, state and local government operations, technology incubation, coworking, urban agriculture, and other non-traditional uses. GSA may extend invitations to respondents to participate in future in-person workshops to further discuss this topic. Responding to the RFI doesn’t guarantee participation in those workshops.
