Notice of Intent to Sole Source - Speed Reducers - Appleton Marine

NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE NOAA's Marine Operations Center, Acquisitions Branch, intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Appleton Marine Inc, of Appleton, Wisconsin, for the direct replacement purchase of three (3) each planetary speed reducers for the repair of their three Appleton Marine BMD-0646 capstans aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson. The sole source determination is based on the requirement for original equipment manufacturer parts for direct replacement.

This particular brand name is essential to the requirement and market research indicates similar products do not meet or cannot be modified to meet agency needs. The YMD-11536 planetary speed reducers are specialized components crucial for the functionality of the Appleton Marine Capstan Model BMD-0646. These reducers are designed specifically to meet the requirements and specifications of the capstan, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in marine operations.

Such documentation will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to conduct a competitive procurement, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government.
