The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to negotiate on an other than full and open competition basis with Gatan Inc., 5794 W Las Positas Blvd, Pleasanton, California 94588. The Structural Informatics Unit is studying the structure of influenza viruses complexed with antibodies by electron microscopy in which biological samples are applied to small discs called EM grids.

These grids are covered with biological samples and are then placed into the electron microscope instrument for imaging. Images must be recorded on an imaging detector. Robust imaging of the sample in the microscope is critical to improve image quality and resolution. The laboratory requires the Rio 16 camera to attach to an existing electron microscope. This will aid the goal of developing better vaccines by studying vaccine structures at a better resolution.

The Rio 16 camera must be serviced and maintained and needs a service/maintenance contract with Gatan as to not void the equipment’s warranty. This request of for the Rio 16 camera and its service.
