The new HPU will be used on the upstream lift gates to move the hydraulic cylinder during maintenance operations to disconnect the crosshead from the piston or move the piston without the crosshead connected, which supports the gate cables while the main hydraulic pump/system is not in use. The necessary components and setup for the HPU will be installed to the hydraulics system at both sides of the upstream lift gates.

Hydraulic operating pressure 1500-2000 psi, ~250 gallon hydraulic cylinder, bore 20.86 in diameter, rod 8.66 in diameter, stroke 170 in., cycle time 90-120 seconds (per the operators), 100 HP pump, 750 gallon reservoir. This hydraulic system is the same on both sides of the Lock (East and West) for both sets of gates.
