Description

06/17/2024: Bidder Inquiries posted 06/05/2024: Solicitation Posted Project Description (approx. quantities):

Background and Purpose: The Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, requires the completion of the final design and fabrication of a new Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy (CRAB). The ERDC requires a CRAB to replace the existing 40+ year old vehicle that is approaching end of life and relied upon at the Field Research Facility (FRF) located in Duck, North Carolina for hydrographic surveys, instrument deployments, and specialized surf zone data collection efforts.

A recently completed concept design effort evaluated the existing vehicles stability and reliability and used these results to 1) design an updated vehicle that maintains the desired characteristics from the existing vehicle and 2) include customizations to improve functionality for specific applications that are now common but were not envisioned when the original vehicle was designed.

The ERDC CHL requires the final design and build of a CRAB vehicle based on the results of a recent concept design effort which provides the general requirements for the construction of the CRAB.

Major Requirements: Complete the detail design of a CRAB vehicle, then construct, test, deliver, reassemble (if needed) and complete onsite testing for the CRAB vehicle for the Field Research Facility (FRF). Preliminary specifications for the CRAB are attached in this Performance Work Statement in Section 3 and shall be followed as they provide the general requirements for the construction of the CRAB and show the essential features, functions, and arrangements, but do not necessarily include all of the details of the design. All tasks shall follow the guidance provided in the Preliminary Specifications document in Section 3 and design drawings located in Section 4.
