Spin Finish

The U.S. Army Contracting Command – Aberdeen Proving Ground (ACC-APG), Natick Division in support of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Soldier Center (DEVCOM-SC) intends to award a Firm Fixed Price contract on a sole source basis to Goulston Technologies Inc. located at 700 N Johnson Street, Monroe, North Carolina 28110-2650, under the authority as prescribed in FAR 13.106-1(b)(1).

The requirement is for the purchase of the Lurol NF-9273 Spin Finish chemical for lubrication purposes during nylon fiber manufacturing operations. Lurol NF-9273 is manufactured by Goulston Technologies, Inc., and it has been determined as the only viable Spin Finish for use in our custom fiber extrusion process.

Other spin finishes for other fiber types (polypropylene) have been examined and tried, however, those materials have a lower vapor density and thus the materials burn off during draw production processing and cause dryness of the spun fiber resulting in the loss of some of the lubrication during the drawing process. Goulston Technologies is the only known provider of the required Spin Finish and no equivalent products that will meet the requirements are known.
