DISCLAIMER: This RFI is for informational purposes only. This is not a request for proposal (RFP) to be submitted. It does not constitute a solicitation and shall not be construed as a commitment by the Government. Responses in any form are not offers and the Government is under no obligation to award a contract as a result of this announcement. No funds are available to pay for preparation of responses to this announcement.
Any information submitted by respondents to this technical description is strictly voluntary. The Project Manager, Munition Ammunition Systems, Small Caliber (PM-MAS-SC), NJ, is submitting this Request for Information (RFI) for sub sonic ammunition (7.62mm, .300 Norma Magnum, .338 Norma Magnum). Currently there are no contract vehicles for this ammunition and recent market surveys have not produced interested parties with the capability to fulfill this requirement.
The 7.62mm, .300 NM, and .338 NM sub-sonic ammunition sought shall fire out of currently fielded precision weapon systems without modification at a sub-sonic muzzle velocity so that there is no supersonic report when fired. Sub-sonic ammunition enables snipers to neutralize dangerously close targets without compromise to their position or mission due to the lack of a supersonic crack by the bullet.
Evaluations for weapon function will focus on the following weapon and caliber combinations: the Mk22 for the .300/.338 NM and 7.62x51mm through the Mk22 and M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR). The required system performance parameters are as follows:
Accuracy and range, with a 99% probability, for all 3 calibers - 3-inch diameter circular area at 100 meters, 6-inch diameter circular area at 200 meters, 9 inch diameter circular area at 300 meters and for .338 a 12-inch diameter circular area at 400 meters, noise dB has not been established.
Quantities: 5,280 of each caliber, packaged and marked in M2A2 ammunition cans. Information required by each submitter: Cost per round, propellant type and weight, primer ingredients and their weight.
Suspense: 4 weeks from date of posting.
