Description

As published on SAM.gov.

The US Army Contracting Command-Redstone, Operations, Services, & Training Division, plans to obtain information to serve as market research to help identify potential sources that can provide ferrogram makers. Ferrogram makers are used in analytical Ferrography.

Analytical Ferrography, also known as wear particle analysis, is a non-destructive, optical technique used to evaluate the size, shape, composition, and concentration of wear particles in an oil or grease sample to determine a component’s (engine, transmission, gearbox, etc.) wear condition. This technology is one of the more sensitive, non-intrusive methods used to determine a weapon system component’s health.

The ferrogram maker, also called an analytical ferrograph, is a device used in analytical ferrography to separate wear particles from a lubricating oil or grease sample and deposit them on a glass slide called a ferrogram. This process allows for microscopic analysis of the wear particles to determine the type and severity of wear in machinery. This effort directly contributes to the AOAP’s mission to provide continuous in-service lubricant sample analysis in support of Army requirements worldwide.
