06/05/2024 DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Edax LLC, located in Warrendale, PA to provide repair service for an Edax Orbis PC micro-XRF spectrometer system.

The Chemical Sciences Division of the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) provides the measurement science, standards, technology, data and chemical informatics required to support the nation’s needs in the determination of chemical composition for a variety of materials including metal alloys, cements, glasses, plastics, lead paints, metal and sulfur in motor oils and fuels, etc. To support this mission, the Inorganic Metrology Group utilizes an Orbis PC micro-XRF spectrometer system which has failed and is in need of repair services. Sole Source justification is based on the following:

Edax LLC is the sole supplier of replacement parts and repair service for EDAX Orbis XRF systems. Only direct factory trained EDAX employees are authorized to service the Orbis XRF system. All authorized replacement parts are only available through EDAX, the original equipment manufacturer of the Orbis. Edax has stated they do not have authorized service partners or resellers.

NAICS code for this requirement will be 811210 – Other Electronic and Precision Repair and Maintenance with a small business size of 22.0M No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, interested parties who regard themselves as capable of fulfilling these requirements are invited to submit responses to the Government for consideration. Responses received by will be considered by the Government.
