Description
As published on SAM.gov.
The Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility / Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment - U.S. (LBNF/DUNE-US) Project will provide facilities to enable a world-class program in neutrino physics that can measure fundamental physical parameters, explore physics beyond the Standard Model, and better elucidate the nature of matter and anti-matter.
Specifically, the LBNF/DUNE-US Project will build a new high-intensity neutrino beam at Fermilab aimed at the LBNF Far Site, located at South Dakota’s Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), 1,300 km away; the associated DUNE subproject will build neutrino detectors at Fermilab and SURF. The experiment will be optimized for precision measurement of neutrino oscillations with the goal of searching for charge parity-violation in the neutrino sector, as well as making other precision oscillation measurements.
The Near Site Conventional Facilities (NSCF) provides the new service buildings, underground enclosures, utilities, roads, hardstands, and other conventional facilities features needed for operation of the LBNF Beamline and DUNE Near Detector. This requirement is for the NSCF Near Detector Complex comprising the following elements:
1. Site Work Site Work includes new utilities and other site improvements necessary to accommodate the LBNF Near Detector Complex.
2. Near Detector Complex The Near Detector Complex is sited near Fermilab’s western boundary in the path of the neutrino beam and includes the Near Detector Service Building (LBNF-40) located at the surface, and the Near Detector Hall (NDH), an underground detector cavern excavated in rock. The NDH is connected to LBNF-40 by two shafts that allow access for equipment and personnel. The DUNE Near Detector will be provided and installed by the DUNE subproject after beneficial occupancy.
