Redevelopment solicitation available for historic Chicago State Street properties Historic buildings offer rare opportunity to drive revitalization on iconic State Street CHICAGO – The federal government announced today the opportunity to privately finance and redevelop its historic downtown Chicago buildings and vacant land. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is offering its properties for a long-term lease redevelopment at 202-220 South State Street which include the Century and Consumers Buildings.
A request for qualifications (RFQ) opens Nov. 19, 2024, with submissions due Jan. 31, 2025. Adjacent to the Everett M. Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, Chicago, the properties are a mix of high- and mid-rise buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places and were constructed between 1887 and 1915. An unimproved parcel is also available for redevelopment between the historic buildings.
The buildings and empty parcel reside within the Loop Retail Historic District and are adjacent to the Chicago Federal Center. “This RFQ is an excellent opportunity for a developer to make a strong impact in this iconic district of Chicago,” said Robert Green, Deputy Regional Commissioner, GSA PBS Great Lakes Region. “GSA is focused on providing a win-win solution for the community and the federal government.” This solicitation effort for the reuse of these properties is the result of a federal review process completed by GSA in September 2024. GSA owns and manages the buildings and will retain ownership through a long-term lease initiative.
