The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) are beginning the planning phase for the next generation weather radar replacement, termed Radar NEXT. NOAA/NWS are hosting a virtual one-hour industry day kick-off meeting on Thursday, December 5, 2024 to introduce the upcoming Weather Radar Technology Exploration for the NWS Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to interested parties.
Representatives from the Radar NEXT team will provide a brief introduction to the program, discuss the program’s BAA priorities listed below, and tentative timelines for possible awards. Time for questions and answers (Q&A) will be provided. A limited number of 1-on-1 Q&A breakout sessions will be available to interested parties after the release of the BAA.
The purpose of these 1-on-1 sessions is to give industry partners the opportunity to ask Government representatives questions that may reveal information that is sensitive in nature pertaining to their approach to the BAA. Details on how to register for these sessions will be included in the BAA as well as an amendment posted to this notice.
BAA Priority Interests: Radar network concepts (S-, C-, X-band or combinations thereof), recommendations for acquisition, and program management approaches Interest and associated approach to providing radar data as-a-service Phased Array Radar (PAR) system maturity and operational functionality and readiness for weather Data integration (e.g., merging techniques and concepts)
BAA Secondary Interests: Spectrum considerations, among other technical topics Future radar architectures to address current/future challenges Additional exploration of the use of PAR technology Radar network and infrastructure for data processing Exploration of novel radar technology advancement in weather prediction Application of artificial intelligence Maturity and application of mobile/portal weather radar technology Other proposed research and exploratory development concepts Weather radar technology maturation Date:
