Notice of Intent. The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office (NCO) 21 intents to award Sole Source to Intuitive Surgical Inc. for maintenance service on a DaVinci Surgical System located at the VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System. Determination of this sole source procurement is in accordance FAR 13.5 Simplified Procedures for Certain Commercial Items.

The statutory authority for applying the Simplified Procedures for Commercial Items of FAR 13.5 is 41 U.S.C. § 1901 and is implemented by FAR 13.106-1(b)(2) for restricting competition on this procurement. Competition is restricted because there is only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.

The system currently in use at the VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System includes proprietary equipment to that of Intuitive Surgical Inc. It is the government's belief that the proposed candidate is the only vendor that can meet the agency's needs. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. No solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be accepted. Supporting evidence must be furnished in sufficient detail to demonstrate the ability to comply with the above requirement.

Responses will be considered by the government; however, a determination by the government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses of this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. The application NAICS Code is 811210 and the size standard is $24.0M. No telephone request will be accepted.
