Intent to Sole Source JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS VACCINE IXIARO

Page 1 of 1 The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Network Contracting Office 12, located in Milwaukee, WI, plans to award a sole source, firm-fixed-price delivery order to Valneva USA, Inc. (4550 Montgomery Avenue, Suite 460, Bethesda, MD 20814). This order is for the Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus vaccine, IXIARO (NDC: 42515-0002-01). The vaccine is needed for Navy recruits before they leave for training, as they may be deployed to areas where JE is common.

The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL, has requested this vaccine. IXIARO is used to protect against Japanese encephalitis, a serious disease caused by a virus found mostly in Asia and parts of the western Pacific. According to the CDC, JE is the most common vaccine-preventable cause of brain inflammation in those regions. The CDC recommends this vaccine for people moving to or traveling through areas where JE is a risk.
