High Resolution SWIR Spectrograph

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Sensor Science Division (SSD) Remote Sensing group has been funded by NIST’s Special Program Office’s Greenhouse Gas Measurement Research project. One of the funded projects, the FOREST program, has developed a testbed on the NIST campus to evaluate the current state of knowledge relating optical remote sensing to biophysiological measurements of vegetative land cover.

An additional complementary task is to improve measurements and quantification of methane emissions. As part of this project, we will be projecting spectral distributions of different land scenes with varying methane concentrations using our custom Spectrally Tunable Source. The compact, high resolution SWIR spectrograph will be used to measure the methane signature of projected spectral distributions in the 1630 nm to 1680 nm.
