The IM HE-T is a full bore HE warhead with a Multi-Purpose capability against a target set that includes bunkers, reinforced concrete walls, Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) targets, light armor, and personnel. The two-mode hand-settable fuze allows the tank commander to select a Point Detonating (PD) function for maximum fragmentation/blast, or a delay function for detonation after target penetration. At a minimum, the cartridge is to be compatible with the M1A1 Abrams tank, equipped with a smooth bore M256 cannon. The cartridge shall have a minimum range of no less than 7,000 meters (m) with an accuracy of no less than 0.4 milliradians at 2,000m and have a dual safe, impact triggered fuze with two modes, PD and delay function. The IM HE-T is needed to provide a rapid response multi-purpose capability cartridge for the Abrams fleet.
