## Description

**DESCRIPTION:** The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with A.W. Miller, of East Aurora, New York, for the acquisition of two Mazak Integrex i-200HSN Multi-Tasking Centers, to be used in the NIST Fabrication Technology Office (FTO), on the NIST campus, Gaithersburg, MD. A.W Miller is the sole authorized distributer in the state of Maryland and has the exclusive rights to MAZAKs line of milling and turning products.

Sole source determination is based on the need to purchase two Mazak Integrex i-200HSN Multi-Tasking Centers. Only MAZAK’s machines meet FTO’s tolerance standards with their C1 and C2-Axis .0001° positioning with A.I tool suggestion and machining feedback, DONE IN ONE® processing, the MAZTROL controller, and allows compatibility with the FTO’s catalogue of data containing NISTs historical specialized tolerance projects. Without this feature FTO would lose backwards compatibility to utilize 20 years of knowledge.

No other manufacturer’s machines are comparable and do not include the maztrol software or controller which is proprietary to MAZAK. No other distributer is authorized to sell Mazak turning and milling machines except A.W. Miller. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 333517 - Machine Tool Manufacturing with a size standard of 500 employees.

A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, responses received by March 15, 2024, 11:00 am, ET will be considered by the Government.
