Like all canines, MWDs can be susceptible to heat injuries. The Canine Thermal Model and Monitor (CTMM) effort seeks to reduce heat injuries in MWDs through near real-time monitoring of MWD core body temperature. CTMM will leverage data collected from this canine thermal monitor along with environmental conditions (e.g., humidity, temperature), measured activity level, and geolocation data to optimize tactical deployment, mitigate environmental casualties, and preserve these high value combat assets.
