**SOURCES SOUGHT:** THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR QUOTATION. THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATION AND PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY! This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government. All information submitted in response to this announcement is voluntary and the Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code proposed is 334516: Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, with a size standard of 1,000 employees.

**REQUIREMENT:** The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) anticipates a requirement for one high quality, scientific research grade, scanning tunneling microscope (STM) system with the following minimum salient characteristics: Load/lock chamber Ion getter and Ti sublimation pump Guaranteed pressure less than 10^-10 mbar with ion and Ti pump Radiative sample heating to 650 K Differential pumping for SPM and preparation chambers Optical microscope for sample monitoring and probe navigation Quadrupole mass analyzer up to 200 amu for monitoring UHV vacuum Sample manipulator probe/wobble stick Loadlock chamber for preparation Silicon sublimation source Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) package Sputter ion source Liquid helium/liquid nitrogen flow cryostat Sample temperature range from 50 K to 650 K Scanning range of 10 µm x 10 µm x 1 µm in x, y, z respectively Tip coarse positioning range of 10 mm in x, y, z directions by piezo motors Eddy current damping for vibrational isolation of STM tip Delivery to:
