## Description

Non-Zeiss SEM manufacturers are unable to maintain Carl Zeiss operating software and equipment due to the proprietary nature of the software and hardware.

**Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC (Cage:** 325W6) (Large Business) is the only entity in the United States authorized to provide proprietary software and hardware support for the Scattering Electron Microscopy (SEM) equipment. Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC possesses sole jurisdiction over technical service representatives who receive comprehensive, on-going factory training for SEM equipment. At this time, there is no avenue for competition. If proprietary rights are released in the future for multiple vendors to distribute, then the requirement may be procured by means of competition.
