The system is Federally-regulated through Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.72.A.4, which states that the licensee must activate ERDS within 1 hour after the licensee declares an emergency at an emergency class level of “alert” or higher (higher means the declaration of a “site area emergency” or “general emergency”). ERDS is a system that is designed to collect nuclear power plant performance and environmental data for analysis by NRC and State emergency response personnel.
