This system is critical for ensuring timely intervention and care during various medical emergencies, thereby safeguarding the health and lives of our Veteran patients. VAGLAHS has successfully integrated Spok Inc. paging transmitters and antennas, which are strategically installed on the roof of the main hospital building. This specialized equipment is essential for ensuring that emergency pages can be reliably broadcast throughout the entire facility, including through thick concrete walls and down to the basement levels, with minimal interference. The robust infrastructure provided by Spok Inc. not only enables comprehensive coverage but also guarantees the security of sensitive information. Spok pagers utilize a proprietary encryption method. Transitioning to an alternative vendor for the paging system would necessitate a complete overhaul of the existing infrastructure, including the installation of new transmitters, antennas, and other essential equipment to ensure compatibility with the new vendor's network. Such an undertaking would incur exorbitant costs and require significant time for implementation. The resulting lapse in coverage during this transition period would pose substantial risks to patient safety, interrupting the critical emergency response system on which our medical personnel and Veteran patients rely.
