BACKGROUND: The Roskamp Institute, mass spectrometry team conducts research in neurological illnesses including Alzheimer s disease (AD) for its prevention and treatment in veterans carrying the genetic risk factor APOE 4 (involved in lipid transport) as they represent an at-risk population for AD especially after having sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury and/or developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to stroke and other neuroglial diseases are highly prevalent in the Veteran population. PURPOSE: The equipment will enhance the ability of the researcher to increase the number of samples that can be processed at once through its ability to deliver optimal chromatographic separation of the lipid analytes at ultrahigh speed.
