The performance of the test by ancillary clinical staff introduces the opportunity for error that has plagued our current platform. As such it is imperative that our new analyzers are capable of detecting problems with specimens and implementing a hard stop that prevents the reporting of results that are not valid. The most common problem with these specimens is hemolysis. The Werfen Gem 7000 is the only analyzer on the market capable of detecting hemolysis in patient whole blood specimens. Not only can it detect hemolysis, but it can also grade its severity and apply rules that hold results if it exceeds a programmable threshold. The point of care analyzers we currently have in place are often reporting erroneous results causing confusion for providers and delaying care for patients. VA New York Harbor is confident that the Werfen Gem 7000 analyzer will significantly improve the reliability of our results and meet the needs of our veteran patients. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation will be made available.
