Gamboa is home to our amphibian rescue center, insectaries, experimental greenhouses, bat behavior installations, a schoolhouse for field courses and housing for visiting scientists. The Maintenance Shops at Gamboa project's objective is a renovation of the existing building No. 78 at Gamboa and the construction of a new structure required for marine and facilities maintenance shop. Work under this project includes but is not limited to: • Demolition and reconstruction of the existing walls and office spaces. • Repair of existing slab. • Construction of new maintenance shop o Remodel of masonry walls o Refurbish and erection of steel structures. o Installation of purlins and roofing. • Masonry and dry walls. • Architectural finishes and openings. • Electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, and their interconnection with existing system at Gamboa Lab campus infrastructure. • Security and communications, and its interconnection with existing system at Gamboa Lab campus infrastructure. • Fire protection and fire suppression systems for life safety systems. • New concrete pavement entrance. • Rollable doors. • Sidewalks. Upon the receipt of Technical and Cost Proposals and the selection of a successful Offeror, the Smithsonian Institution will execute a Fixed Price construction contract.
