The health samples are analyzed by validated analytical methods and citations are issued to mine operators if exposure limits are exceeded. MSHA is seeking the services of an American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) certified and National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited laboratory to supplement its Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center (PSHTC) Laboratory capabilities to analyze health enforcement samples for asbestos fibers. These samples are collected by MSHA inspectors and other MSHA personnel at mining operations throughout the United States and its territories.
