Soliciting these services from other sources may result in unrepairable damage to the Propulsion and Steering Systems and require a complete replacement, which would significantly increase the cost of this service and time to complete the work. This would result in lost days at sea and unrecoverable data losses that are critical to managing valuable U.S. fisheries resources risking overfishing and fisheries stock collapse. In addition, the RV Gladys Reese is currently equipped with Beier Propulsion and Steering Systems designed and installed by Beier Intergrated Systems (BIS). BIS is the only company currently qualified and available to service this proprietary equipment. No other contractors are qualified to service the equipment and similar products cannot be modified to be compatible with the current Propulsion and Steering Systems.
