The Intelligent Systems Division (ISD) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Engineering Laboratory (EL) Production Systems Group (PSG) owns a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Vertical Milling Machine used to post-process additively manufactured parts and machine research instruments, devices, and experimental apparatus. PSG is also purchasing a Hybrid-Additive Manufacturing (AM) Machine combining both subtractive machining with metal additive 3D printing in one machine to expand its research capabilities. The new Hybrid AM machine will require the use of MasterCam software for the programming of the additive and subtractive tool paths and the standardizing of CAM software for both of PSG’s machine tools will benefit the group. The objective of this requirement is to procure MasterCam software with 3-axis, 5-axis, multi-axis, wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and Probing capabilities for the programming and tool path creation of the groups Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling and additive machines.
