BACKGROUND INFORMATION & PURPOSE The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Engineering Laboratory’s Fire Research Division develops, verifies, and utilizes measurements and predictive methods to quantify the behavior of fire and means to reduce the impact of fire on people, property, and the environment. This work involves integration of laboratory measurements, verified methods of prediction, and large-scale fire experiments to demonstrate the use and value of the research products. To fulfill its mission, the Fire Research Division requires an expansion to its particulate sampling capabilities (via a new Particulate Sampling System) at the National Fire Research Laboratory. This expansion focuses on adding a Particulate Sampling System that includes shrouded probes, transport lines, and flange supports.
