## Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Gaithersburg, MD intents to sole source for web-based access to Chemical Abstract Service’s (CAS) comprehensive collection of scientific patents and journal literature with American Chemistry Society (Large Business). CAS a division of the American Chemical Society has confirmed that they are the only organization in the world able to produce this product known as CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform. There are no third-party providers.

No other vendor can provide platform and support required by this acquisition. The principal databases are Chemical Abstracts (CASM), which contains over 28 million document records from the chemical journal and patent literature, and CAS REGISTRY, which contains more than 34 million substance and 59 million sequence records. The SciFinder platform will allow NIST scientists to explore Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) content including collections of scientific patents and journal literature.

The SciFinder Platform will enable NIST researchers to efficiently gather specialist content on chemistry, biology, physics, geology, medicine, engineering and organic and inorganic compounds that are used in physical science, engineering and applied mathematics applications.

Having access to this integrated resource of journals and patent information will enable NIST researchers to explore literature, substances, reactions, or sequences; locate a specific reference or substance; have the ability to browse table of contents of favorite journals with easy access to back issues and stay up to date with current research on topics of their choice with SciFinder's specialized alert feature. NIST scientists need to monitor the scientific literature worldwide, where they can easily discover relevant information that might otherwise be missed.
