NOAA is congressionally mandated to survey the national shoreline. The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) requires two terrestrial laser scanning systems capable of collecting survey-grade 3D data at long range (= 2 km) from limited and potentially remote terrestrial vantage points, while maintaining high accuracy and sufficient point density to support emergency response, damage assessment, and geodetic applications nationwide.
