Better World Manufacturing, Inc. is the only manufacturer of this trap. The Multilure trap is patented in the United States. Patent number is US 6,532,695 B1 dated March 18, 2003. The USDA-APHIS-PPQ uses a delimitation grid that relies on Multi-Lure based traps that have been proven effective at detecting male Medflies. Without this trap it would be difficult to maintain an effective survey to monitor the presence or absence of any other wild Medflies within the release area. Failure to detect additional wild flies would seriously compromise the integrity of the eradication effort and could ultimately either add to the overall cost or even prevent its successful completion. The Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Ceratitis capitata or Medfly) is considered the most important agricultural pest in the world causing widespread damage. The Medfly has spread throughout the Mediterranean region, southern Europe, the Middle East, Western Australia, South and Central America and Hawaii. It has been recorded infesting a wide range of commercial and garden fruits, nuts and vegetables, including apple, avocado, bell pepper, citrus, melon, peach, plum and tomato. This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive proposals. No solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be honored.
